We have a dedicated Learning and Development team, supplemented by relationships with a range of external trainers, developers, suppliers, coaches and mentors. This ensures we can provide a wide range of interactive, creative and engaging development to meet your needs both now and as your career with IPC progresses.
We know that some of the best learning comes from what you do every day - working on interesting projects; spotting opportunities to make a difference; going that extra mile to add value to our readers, website users, advertisers, suppliers or other staff; maybe going on secondment to a different team. Because your development is so important to us, every member of staff is given a unique log in access to our L&D On-line system when they join. There, you will find information on all the general development we have scheduled.
We know that people can sink or swim in the first few days and weeks after they start a new job in a new company. That's why for us, induction is vital, to make sure our new staff can become effective in their jobs as quickly as possible. As soon as you join, you will be given an individual induction session with your HR representative, and you will receive a personal invitation to our next corporate induction event, when you will meet board members, editors and other useful contacts. You will also get to hear about IPC strategy and plans, all the services we offer, and meet colleagues from around our business. And it's also a bit of a fun, with a few drinks thrown in at the end.
While some skills and knowledge might be useful to all, IPC is passionate about ensuring our editorial, marketing, publishing, advertising and other teams have access to customised training and development to help them fulfil their roles more effectively and grow their potential. For that reason, we run more bespoke development events across the year in response to specific needs.. So whether you're a writer wanting to learn how to interview and video celebrities; an advertising sales executive wanting to make the best possible pitch to your clients; an administrator, wanting to become an advanced Excel user; or a web editor wanting to maximise your use of social media, we have a development option for you. And if we don't, our L&D Managers will design or source one to suit.
Nature or nurture - are people born to be good managers and leaders or do we develop them to become great at managing? We don't pretend to answer that tricky question but we do believe that people promoted or recruited into management positions should have access to help, information, and support and be able to develop a full range of management skills.
