November 21, 2005
- the biggest-selling music weekly in the world - unveils its 2005 Cool List
in this week's issue, on sale Wednesday November 23.
Now in its fourth year, The NME Cool List
acknowledges the artists who have rocked the music world, listing the Top 50 coolest people around.
Pete Doherty claimed the number one spot last year, when the issue was promoted by a world first for weeklies - a striking lenticlar cover. To promote the issue this year, NME
is offering its readers an exclusive Cool List
CD with the magazine.
Top of The Cool List 2005
is Arctic Monkeys' front man, Alex Turner, with Ian Brown, Damon Albarn, Kanye West and Liam Gallagher all making it in to the Top 10.
The free covermounted CD features 16 great tracks by some of the most cutting-edge artists around, including The Cribs, The Test Icicles and Mercury Music Prize winners, Antony and the Johnsons.
The issue also features:
* If Only They Rocked
- a list of the 10 coolest non-musicians
* Had It, Lost It
- naming the people who used to be cool, but now aren't
* The Fool List
- a list of music's 10 most uncool people
* Cool Places
- The places to be this year
Alex Needham, deputy editor of NME
, says: "Featuring both elder statesmen and thrusting young turks, the NME Cool List
is the one every musician wants to be on. Last year Pete Doherty and Carl Barat were joint number one. 2005's list may well stir up even more controversy."
IPC ignite! senior marketing manager Nick New says: "The NME Cool List
CD is a great way of NME
showcasing what we do best - NME
bringing exciting new bands to our readers! Every week we do it in the pages of our magazine, and once in a while we give our readers exactly what they want - a CD full of fantastic new bands!" -ends-
