IPC Inspire today announces the appointment of Owain Jones as the new editor of Rugby World
Owain is a well-known sports writer with a distinguished track record in rugby journalism on both sides of the Welsh border. For four years he wrote for, and edited, publications for the Welsh Rugby Union including their range of international match day programmes. More recently he edited publications for the British & Irish Lions and the IRB, notably for the 2011 Rugby World Cup.
Owain comes to Rugby World having spent a year as a successful multimedia journalist, during which time he has developed a strong focus on digital publishing and social media, and having contributed to both print and digital media through clients which include Haymarket, Future, ITV Sport, ESPNScrum.com and Eurosport.
Rugby World publishing director Hamish Dawson says: "I'm very pleased to welcome Owain to IPC Inspire. He joins Rugby World at one of the most exciting and challenging times in its distinguished 51 year history, with the build-up to the Rugby World Cup coming to the UK in 2015. His appointment coincides with the rapid development of new, digital channels through which Rugby World can go on delivering the most intelligent and well-informed rugby journalism in the UK.
"Naturally, I'm very sorry to be losing such a distinguished editor as Paul Morgan, and I thank him for his fantastic achievements as editor for the last 12 years. His are big shoes to fill but I have no doubt that Owain is the man to do that."
Owain Jones says: "I am absolutely thrilled to be taking up the Rugby World editorship which comes at a time when the game's profile has never been higher. I look forward to spreading the rugby gospel, not only through our hugely respected magazine, but also through digital and social media channels in order to meet the needs of our increasingly media-savvy readers.
"Exciting challenges lie ahead and I will endeavour to make sure that Rugby World retains its relevance and integrity at the heart of rugby for another half century. I simply cannot wait to get started."
Owain takes up his new position in January.
