NME PARTNERS EMI TO LAUNCH NEW NME CLASSICS RETAIL CD

March 11, 2008

NME Classics NME today announces a new partnership with EMI – the largest independent music company and the oldest record company in the world – to launch a new retail album, NME Classics.

NME Classics will be a 3-CD selection of the very best bands and artists to have been championed by NME through the decades. The magazine's heritage sees the album spanning the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s, bringing together a collection of the definitive 'classic' bands, including The Stooges, Ramones, Blondie, New Order, Depeche Mode, Stone Roses, Ash, Supergrass, Radiohead and Manic Street Preachers.

NME editor Conor McNicholas says: “NME is renowned for championing new music, but we never forget the bands that have had such a huge impact on music in the past. We've put together some of the most influential and inspirational artists on a 3-CD album, packed with some of the most magical music anthems of the past three decades. It's a must have!”

NME publisher Emily Hutchings says: “This project has been really exciting to work on and by working together with EMI for the first time, we've been able to bring together in one place all the bands and artists that NME fans have loved over the decades. NME Classics represents all the bands that have had a real impact on music culture over the years” .”

Steve Pritchard, co-mananging director EMI Catalogue Marketing, adds: “Having grown up with NME in the glory days of punk and those classic single reviews, it's a real case of mixing business with pleasure working with the magazine on this Classics collection. Spanning these three decades gives a real sense of the flow through of creativity and attitude from the initial punk explosion and we hope we can capture the imagination of like-minded music buyers from these generations. It's the perfect playlist for anyone's iPod.”

The NME Classics album goes on sale today, March 10.
