Nuts, the number one selling men's lifestyle magazine in the UK, is pleased to announce a partnership with MTV UK to televise the WKD Nuts Football Awards 2008.
Following on from the high-scoring success of last year's WKD Nuts Football Awards, this year's Awards are set to be bigger and better than ever, with the ultimate results show playing out across MTV channels including the premiere on TMF on Sunday 11th May at 9pm and, MTV TWO, VH1 and MTVR between the 11th and 19th of May.
The WKD Nuts Football Awards, now in its second successful season, offers Nuts readers the unique chance to champion their favourites to win across 14 special categories.
As this year's season reaches its sweat-soaked conclusion, players will be vying to lift some of the most sought after accolades in football. This year's categories bring back firm favourites from last year, as well as a sprinkle of new signings, debuting this year. Dodgiest Barnet, Chant of the Season, Bargain of the Season, Special Award for Man Love and Most WKD Goal celebration all make a return. Among the new categories are Pundit of the Season, Scottish Player of the Season and Gaffer of the Year.
Developed by IPC Ignite Sponsorship & Brand Solutions – the team responsible for generating truly innovative and creative advertising solutions across the award-winning Ignite portfolio – the Awards have been promoted across the Nuts platforms, including a dedicated channel on www.nuts.co.uk.
The voting phase of this year's Awards has included intensive editorial support and targeted advertorials in-magazine, with specially-themed content, quizzes and talking heads. A dedicated online WKD Nuts Football Channel has provided regularly updated content, daily blogs, a weekly column from a top football pundit, as well as details on all the categories – including galleries and voting options. And a bespoke WKD Sunday League Team section has also been created online, with galleries, video virals and user-generated content; as well as on-going viral quizzes.
The WKD partnership was developed by Karen Salters, marketing director of Beverage Brands and Gordon Domlija, director at media agency John Ayling Associates. Anna Vercoe developed the partnership for IPC Ignite Sponsorship & Brand Solutions. The MTV partnership was developed by IPC Ignite head of PR Nicola Woods and Jeremy Davies, executive producer, MTV Music Channels.
Karen says: “The awards provide the perfect cross-media platform for WKD to engage with a young, male target audience in an interactive and dynamic way. The unconventional nature of the awards and its categories mirrors WKD's sense of humour and allows real footie fans to have their view.”
Gordon adds: “Following the fantastic success of 2007, where the WKD Nuts Football Awards really caught the imagination of our consumers and customers alike, we are delighted to be able to bring them the opportunity to be part of the the bigger and better 2008 version. The awards will not only live through the multiple Nuts communication platforms but will be further brought to life in on-trade venues across the UK.”
Anna Vercoe says: “WKD continues to be the perfect partner for the Nuts Football Awards, and it's great to be able to continue to develop this unique partnership activity. And the Awards represent a great example of commercial and editorial teams working together for the benefits of both businesses and the consumers.”
Nuts publisher Clair Porteous adds: “There are no other sporting awards quite like these – they're the only ones that fit seamlessly with the tastes of players and fans alike – and we're thrilled that WKD and MTV are partnering this unique celebration of football.”
