STATEMENT REGARDING HOMES & GARDENS, NOVEMBER 1938

November 3, 2003

IPC Media completely understands the concerns voiced by the Wyman Institute regarding sympathetic coverage of Hitler and the Nazi regime prior to the onset of World War Two.

IPC is obviously appalled that – like much of the world's media – any of its magazines were taken in by the Nazi propaganda of the 1930s.

Indeed our own research has uncovered a similar article, written by the same author, in an issue of Country Life magazine dated March 28, 1936. We make this information known because the material is clearly of serious historical interest.

Regarding the Homes & Gardens feature published in the November 1938 issue, IPC has never had any intention of suppressing this or any other article of historic importance, or of suppressing any analysis of such material.

IPC's initial consideration involved the matter of copyright. However, it is now clear that after 65 years, copyright for this article cannot be clearly established. Therefore, on this basis it was not in our gift to have given or withdrawn permission for reproduction of this article.
