NME AWARDS 2006 – DETAILS UNVEILED

November 7, 2005

NME, the market-leading music weekly, today announces details of the 2006 annual NME Awards. The internationally renowned event will be held on Thursday, 23 February at London's Hammersmith Palais and is sponsored for the second year running by hairstyling giant Shockwaves.

Building on the amazing heritage and credibility of NME, the ShockWaves NME Awards 2006 will honour some of the biggest names in rock and celebrate the best in new music from 2005, as well as firmly setting the agenda for the year to come.

Voting for this year's event will commence on Tuesday, 29 November via NME.com or a voting form in the NME. Last year well over 30,000 votes were cast, making it the largest public voting awards in the music calendar.

NME editor Conor McNicholas says: “This is the definitive new music event, each year showcasing great news bands like Franz Ferdinand and Kaiser Chiefs, and propelling them onto the international stage. Our awards have traditionally set the music agenda, and the ShockWaves NME Awards 2006 will do nothing less.”

NME publisher Tammi Iley adds: “The annual NME Awards are the benchmark for showcasing the most exciting new bands to both the industry and the music buying public. The NME already reaches its huge international audience across a multitude of platforms – whether that's print, TV, the internet, mobile technology, or live events. This year's Awards will only enhance our audiences' experience of the brand, however they choose to enjoy it.”

As usual, the Shockwaves NME Awards will be pre-empted by the NME Awards Tour, tearing across the UK with the hottest new bands and culminating in the annual London-based Awards Shows next year. Details of the Tour line-up will be announced shortly.
