NME IS COMING TO AMERICA!

November 1, 2006

NME.Nov -– CLUB NME HITS CMJ!
-– NME.COM LAUNCHES EAST AND WEST COAST NEWS DESKS
CLUB NME NYC RESIDENCY AT GRAMERCY PARK HOTEL

NME, the iconic British rock weekly, is celebrating CMJ Music Marathon 06 by unveiling a raft of plans to extend the brand to the US.

NME, which tonight hosts an invitation-only showcase of new music for CMJ under its Club NME banner, is launching a regular Club NME NYC residency at the famous Gramercy Park Hotel from December. The announcement follows the launch of Club NME LA at Spaceland in September and the opening of Club NME Dublin at The Hub last month.

Club NME – well established in venues across the UK as the live club night to break the hottest new music – will be taking up residency tonight for one night only at the magnificent Harmony Palace in China Town. Headlining the bill will be Brazilian electro popsters CSS, admirably supported by Chicago outfit The Office and hotly tipped UK garage rock quintet The Horrors. This special one off launch event is being presented by Microsoft Zune and Global Cool, an organization devoted to defeating global warming.

And from December 15, Club NME NYC will take its permanent fortnightly residency at the Gramercy Park Hotel, a venue soaked in rock 'n' roll heritage.

NME editor Conor McNicholas says: “CMJ is renowned as a showcase for the world's best new music, in much the same way that NME provides a platform for the best international new music. It makes perfect sense to announce our plans for the US right here, at the biggest new music party in the world.”

Meanwhile NME.COM – already America's third most popular music news site* – is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year by creating East and West coast news desks, providing 24-hour rolling news to its international audience of music lovers. The award-winning** NME.COM is launching its extended news platform at CMJ, promising to be first with music news across the globe.

Digital editor-in-chief Anthony Thornton says: “NME.COM has dominated live music online for a decade. And what better way to celebrate our tenth anniversary than by expanding our editorial resource to take on both US coasts? NME.COM is simply first for music news.”

NME publishing director Paul Cheal says: “This is a great time to be extending NME into the US. Not only will our readers there get even more value out of our investment in NME.COM, but they can also now enjoy the full-on live experience of Club NME in both LA and NYC!”

** NME.COM won Best Online Magazine at the BT UK Digital Music Awards last month, and on the following day picked up the Chairman's Award from the UK Association of Online Publishers. The site also recently picked up three Silver Awards from W³ for its outstanding work.
