NME PARTNERS MTV2 FOR SXSW SHOWCASE SPECIAL!

March 27, 2006

nme SXsw NME, the world's biggest-selling music weekly, and MTV2, the alternative music channel, have teamed up to present a special South By SouthWest issue, an exclusive free New Bands Showcase CD, and a weekend of dedicated festival TV programming.

The SXSW issue of NME will include all the hottest news from the internationally renowned Texas music convention - where over 1,000 of the very best new and established artists showcased their work in front of the world's music industry earlier this month.

Not only will NME be bringing readers all the best news, gossip and reviews, it'll also be reporting back on its own very special BBQ event, where the magazine played host to one of the hottest line-ups in town, including: The Longcut, The Cribs, Forward Russia!, Open Slots and Living Things. The showcase also included a very special solo set from legendary Jane's Addiction front man Perry Farrell.

The special SXSW issue comes with a fantastic 14-track cover mounted CD co-sponsored by NME and MTV2 and entitled Best New Bands Showcase 2006. The CD features killer tracks from the best acts showcased across the three day convention - hand selected by NME and MTV2 and guaranteed to set the new music agenda for summer.

The bands showcased on the CD include The Cribs, The Go! Team, The Like, Jose Gonzalez, Wolfmother and The Rakes. It also includes an exclusive, never-before heard track from former Libertine Carl Barat's new band Dirty Pretty Things.

Meanwhile, MTV2 will be creating a full weekend of special co-branded SXSW programming, featuring exclusive acoustic live performances from the likes of Dirty Pretty Things, The Zutons, the Guillemots and festival buzz-band Tapes n Tapes. In addition Young Knives give their diary reflections on the festival, whilst MTV2's Zane Lowe and Transgressive Records' Toby L present the best news and stories and catch up with bands including Snow Patrol, Editors and Be Your Own PET. The programming will be shown on April 1st and 2nd from 2pm, and is also presented in association with PSP.

NME editor Conor McNicholas says: “South By SouthWest is one of the biggest showcases for new music internationally, so it's not surprising that NME had such a strong presence at the event. With this double whammy special issue and hand-selected CD, we're bringing the sights and sounds of South By SouthWest to all our readers.”

NME publisher Tammi Iley adds: “South By SouthWest presented the perfect opportunity for NME and MTV2 to come together and showcase the very best UK talent making a noise in the international music industry. We already work with MTV2 to provide the best Chart Show going, so this further cements our relationship with a leading music brand.”

MTV Networks UK & Ireland head of creative partnerships Virginia Monaghan says: "This is the second year that MTV2 and NME have teamed up to bring our viewers and readers the best of the SXSW festival. MTV2 is committed to championing new music and introducing our viewers to emerging bands, and our co-branded SXSW coverage will be required viewing for music fans. The combined might of the NME and MTV2 brands mean that music fans everywhere will be able to really experience the best of the festival"

The SXSW event also saw the launch of a digital version of NME for US consumers, created in partnership with Zinio, the international digital publishing specialist.
