NME PARTNERS WITH MICROSOFT ZUNE TO PROVIDE ROCK CONTENT!

November 16, 2006

NME.nov15 Zune launches in US with best new and classic track recommendations – from NME!

NME, the iconic British rock weekly, today announces a major new partnership to provide rock music content to Zune – the revolutionary new digital media player from Microsoft.

NME will be Microsoft Zune's primary worldwide content partner for the Rock genre, making NME-branded content available in Zune Marketplace – the online store for Zune – as well as on the Genre page, Playlist hub, Playlist page and Features page.

The partnership will see Zune – which launches to the US market this week – initially take NME content in the form of recommended playlists and features on classic NME albums.

Zune lead music programmer Kyle Hopkins says: "We are thrilled to be working with NME. I remember the first time I saw their magazine as a kid and I have been a fan ever since. These guys consistently produce killer content year after year while staying true to their roots. Having NME content appear in Zune Marketplace alongside ours is incredibly exciting and will help us provide our customers a very cool and interesting perspective on music."

Zune is Microsoft's new music and entertainment platform designed to deliver a more connected and social entertainment experience. The Zune digital media player includes a 30GB hard drive, wireless technology, a built-in FM tuner and a bright, 3-inch screen. The Zune Marketplace music service is the foundation for an online community that will enable music fans to discover and purchase new music.

NME publishing director Paul Cheal comments: "NME is the magazine and website for celebrating the very best in rock 'n' roll, and we are delighted to be Zune's primary partner for the rock genre. Moreover by providing Zune's users with access to our playlists and archive content, the NME brand will be exposed to an even wider audience in the US."

Zune has already sponsored the launch of Club NME at CMJ in New York earlier this month, and both brands will continue to work closely together on events and other opportunities moving forward.

NME launched Club NME LA at Spaceland in September, and launches its regular Club NME NY nights in December. NME is currently gearing up to launch more Club NME nights – as well as unveiling touring activity – in the US in 2007.
